Frequently asked questions
1. Why should you choose the FST INTER program at CMU?
>> Our program offers world-class education and laboratory facilities for future food scientists and food entrepreneurs. Students gain hands-on learning experiences through laboratory courses and practical exposure via internships in the food industry. In their senior year, they will conduct a project to test their big ideas with the guidance of our faculty experts.

If students are interested in the health aspects of food or want to maximize their career opportunities, they have the option to enroll in the PlusOne Program. This program allows students to earn another Bachelor’s degree in Nutrition Science from Deakin University, Australia, within the four-year study plan.

2. What is PlusOne Program?
>> PlusOne Program is an optional study plan for FST INTER students. Students who choose this plan will study at CMU (and pay CMU’s tuition rates) for 3 years and study at Deakin University, Australia, during the fourth year (and pay Deakin’s tuition rates). Students in the PlusOne Program will graduate with TWO degrees, B.S. in Food Science and Technology (Chiang Mai University) & B.S. in Nutrition Science (Deakin University).

3. What are the benefits of the PlusOne Program?
>> The PlusOne Program is time- and cost-effective. Students get TWO degrees within the normal four-year study plan. Students earn a B.S. degree from Deakin University, Australia, by spending only one year overseas—a huge bargain considering the high tuition and living costs of college education in Australia.

Furthermore, the students will be knowledgeable in both food science and nutrition, allowing them to work in various sectors, including the food and health industries, across the world. Students can apply for visas after graduation to find jobs in Australia. Their two degrees will allow them to work internationally as well.

4. When do I need to decide whether I want to join the PlusOne Program?
>> The PlusOne Program is optional, and you can decide during the second or third year of study.

5. Is there financial aid for students who want to join the PlusOne Program?
>> There is no financial aid from CMU now, but we are working to support all students in many ways. Please contact us for the most updated information. Deakin University often has a discounted tuition fee for high-GPA students. Please find the updated information at www.deakin.edu.au.

6. Can I study Food Science and Technology at CMU for the whole 4 years?
>> Yes, you can! If you choose to study at CMU during the fourth year, you will learn more food science subjects. The workload for the last year is light so you can take other courses in CMU as well. Please see our curriculum for the detailed study plan.

7. How do I apply to the FST INTER program at CMU?
>> Foreign students and Thai students from international schools can apply through the IPAS system (https://admission.reg.cmu.ac.th/reg-ipas/). The FST INTER program will be open for all in rounds 1 and 2 and only open for students with non-ED visas in round 3.
For Thai students in the Thai education system, the FST INTER program only accepts applications during TCAS round 1 (portfolio).
